- Future King David???
Does the future King David fit into these scriptures? Could he be the Root of Jesse?
Joseph Smith:
"Although David
was a king, he never did obtain the spirit and power of Elijah and the fullness
of the Priesthood; and the Priesthood that he received, and the throne and
kingdom of David is to be taken from him and given to another by the name of David
in the last days, raised up out of his lineage."
Joseph Smith - HC
6:253 (March 10, 1844)
"...illustrated
the case of David said he could not obtain celestial glory and the reason why
he had any hope or obtained a Promise that of his seed one should be raised up
to reign over Israel forever was because that he had not spoken against the spirit
& because he had not done this he was renewed unto repentance and obtained
promise that God would not leave his soul in Hell" (March 10, 1844)
Ezekiel 34:23-25
23 And I will set up
one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall
feed them, and he shall be their shepherd.
24 And I the Lord
will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the Lord have
spoken it.
25 And I will make
with them a covenant of peace, and will cause the evil beasts to cease out of
the land: and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the
woods.
Ezekiel 37:21-28
21 And say unto
them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from
among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side,
and bring them into their own land:
22 And I will make
them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be
king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be
divided into two kingdoms any more at all:
23 Neither shall
they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable
things, nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save them out of all
their dwellingplaces, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall
they be my people, and I will be their God.
24 And David my
servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they
shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them.
25 And they shall
dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers
have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and
their children’s children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for
ever.
26 Moreover I will
make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with
them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in
the midst of them for evermore.
27 My tabernacle
also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
28 And the heathen
shall know that I the Lord do sanctify Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in
the midst of them for evermore.
Isaiah 55:3-5
3 Incline your ear,
and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an
everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.
4 Behold, I have
given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people.
5 Behold, thou shalt
call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run
unto thee because of the Lord thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he
hath glorified thee.
Jeremiah 30:4-9
4 ¶And these are the
words that the Lord spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah.
5 For thus saith the
Lord; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.
6 Ask ye now, and
see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with
his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into
paleness?
7 Alas! for that day
is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but
he shall be saved out of it.
8 For it shall come
to pass in that day, saith the Lord of hosts, that I will break his yoke from
off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more serve
themselves of him:
9 But they shall
serve the Lord their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.
Psalms 89:1-4
1 I will sing of the
mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness
to all generations.
2 For I have said,
Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the
very heavens.
3 I have made a
covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,
4 Thy seed will I
establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.
