God's Covenant with Lehi
- Personal visit with God
- 2 Nephi 1:15
-
But behold, the Lord hath redeemed my soul from hell; I have beheld his glory, and I am encircled about eternally in the arms of his love.
- Promise of Land, Land blessed for inhabitants' sake
- 2 Nephi 1:5
-
But, said he, notwithstanding our afflictions, we have obtained a land of promise, a land which is choice above all other lands; a land which the Lord God hath covenanted with me should be a land for the inheritance of my seed. Yea, the Lord hath covenanted this land unto me, and to my children forever, and also all those who should be led out of other countries by the hand of the Lord.
- 1 Nephi 13:30
-
Nevertheless, thou beholdest that the Gentiles who have gone forth out of captivity, and have been lifted up by the power of God above all other nations, upon the face of the land which is choice above all other lands, which is the land that the Lord God hath covenanted with thy father that his seed should have for the land of their inheritance; wherefore, thou seest that the Lord God will not suffer that the Gentiles will utterly destroy the mixture of thy seed, which are among thy brethren.
- Posterity will inherit land and be protected
- 2 Nephi 1:9
- Wherefore, I, Lehi, have obtained a promise, that inasmuch as those whom the Lord God shall bring out of the land of Jerusalem shall keep his commandments, they shall prosper upon the face of this land; and they shall be kept from all other nations, that they may possess this land unto themselves. And if it so be that they shall keep his commandments they shall be blessed upon the face of this land, and there shall be none to molest them, nor to take away the land of their inheritance; and they shall dwell safely forever.
- 1 Nephi 13:31
- 31 Neither will he suffer that the Gentiles shall destroy the seed of thy brethren.
- 2 Nephi 1:20
- And he hath said that: Inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall prosper in the land; but inasmuch as ye will not keep my commandments ye shall be cut off from my presence.
- Penalties of Covenant
- 2 Nephi 1:10-11
- ...if the day shall come that they will reject the Holy One of Israel, the true Messiah, their Redeemer and their God, behold, the judgments of him that is just shall rest upon them. Yea, he will bring other nations unto them, and he will give unto them power, and he will take away from them the lands of their possessions, and he will cause them to be scattered and smitten.
- Posterity will be a righteous branch in the last days
- 2 Nephi 9:53
- And behold how great the covenants of the Lord, and how great his condescensions unto the children of men; and because of his greatness, and his grace and mercy, he has promised unto us that our seed shall not utterly be destroyed, according to the flesh, but that he would preserve them; and in future generations they shall become a righteous branch unto the house of Israel.
- Posterity's words would survive until the end
- 2 Nephi 29:2
- And also, that I may remember the promises which I have made unto thee, Nephi, and also unto thy father, that I would remember your seed; and that the words of your seed should proceed forth out of my mouth unto your seed; and my words shall hiss forth unto the ends of the earth, for a standard unto my people, which are of the house of Israel;
Alma 50:19-23
19 And thus we see how merciful and just are
all the dealings of the Lord, to the fulfilling of all his words unto the
children of men; yea, we can behold that his words are verified, even at this
time, which he spake unto
Lehi, saying:
20 Blessed art thou and thy children; and they
shall be blessed, inasmuch as they shall keep my commandments they shall
prosper in the land. But remember, inasmuch as they will not keep my
commandments they shall be cut off from the presence of the Lord.
21 And we see that these promises have been verified to the people
of Nephi; for it has been their quarrelings and their contentions, yea,
their murderings, and their plunderings, their idolatry, their whoredoms, and
their abominations, which were among themselves, which brought upon them their wars and their
destructions.
22 And those who were faithful in keeping the commandments of the Lord
were delivered at all times, whilst thousands of their wicked brethren
have been consigned to bondage, or to perish by the sword, or to dwindle in
unbelief, and mingle with the Lamanites.
23 But behold there never was a happier time
among the people of Nephi, since the days of Nephi, than in the days of Moroni,
yea, even at this time, in the twenty and first year of the reign of the
judges.
